5 Tips for selecting a stroller

Budget plays an important part in the decision for most people. However, buying a stroller may be one of the areas where your budget should be secondary to the safety of your baby. You could buy a low budget stroller only to find that you need to buy another one if the first one should break after a month or two.

1. Safety - The first thing to consider when buying a baby stroller is the safety features. This is one reason why buying a new stroller is advisable, it is much easier to check out all the safety features.

Firstly, check that the baby stroller has a good braking system. Next, check that there is a good five point safety harness. Another helpful feature for your stroller would be adjustable handles. You and your partner are, most probably, significantly different in height and having adjustable handles makes sure that everyone who will be pushing the stroller can do so in comfort.

2. Fabric Protection - Having a stroller with a scotchguard coating to help limit staining along with a washable fabric is also a good idea. It will help your baby stroller to stay looking good for the time your child is using it.

3. Spacious - A stroller with space to carry things is a great asset. It is great to have somewhere to carry all the things that you need for your baby such as a diaper bag, formula etc. It is also good to have somewhere to carry your extra bags.

4. Compact - Consider where you will be storing your baby stroller, will it fit in the closet when it is folded? Is it easy to fold and will it fit comfortably into your car? You really need a baby stroller that is easy to operate, so open and close it a few times before you make your final purchase.

5. Jogging or Standard - If you are a parent who does not intend to give up an active lifestyle once baby arrives, it may be an idea to have a look at the jogging strollers that are available. These are a great way to include your baby in your exercise.

One thing to remember though, these jogging strollers are not recommended for newborns. Also, they are not designed to carry extra bags nor are they a lightweight stroller. If you are keen jogger, it may be a good idea to invest in two strollers; one lightweight one for every day use and a specially made stroller for when you are out jogging.

Every parent will have different priorities when selecting a baby stroller but no-one should ignore the safety features of their chosen stroller. Before making your final decision you should research the different brands to find the best one for your particular needs.
